One of my students said the other day, "I don't get it. So, you mean that God is here now?!? Well, I don't see him." I told the student that God is always here. He's everywhere. You can't see Him visibly because He's a spirit, but you can see Him work in and through the lives of people.
I've been thinking a lot about my students. So many of them were just like me. I really want 7th grade to be a year that they are greatly impacted spiritually and otherwise. I put together a "social" project for them. We will be going to an orphanage once a month to serve. This orphanage is the "worst" in town simply because the lady that runs it is 85 years old and receives no government aid. She takes any type of child: handicapped, mentally challenged, etc. I will go for a visit, but I've heard really bad things about this place, simply because the lady can not do all the work herself.
I told my students about this project (and it was approved yesterday by my director) and they completely started taking initiative over it. I have some students that are negative about the idea, but overall, I've been shocked by their responses.
My students are putting together a canned food drive/cleaning supplies drive as well as an art supply/money for art supplies drive. They really want to help this orphanage out. I thought to myself, "Wow! Some of my kids do have hearts!"
So, please be in prayer about this. Our first outing is November 16. It is my pray that God will develop a love and compassion so deep within my students for others and in turn, they will see God at work in the world.
